People who are considering the idea of becoming phlebotomists may have thought about this exact question before-"Is is possible to take phlebotomy training online?" Because the internet has really changed the way that education happens, it's definitely normal to wonder if online training is an option.
The answer to this question really depends on the specific career.
For example, some who wants to get a business degree may be able to take classes online without having to spend any time in a classroom. The same thing may apply to someone who wants to get a degree in English, philosophy, or something similar.
However, this is quite a different situation when it comes to health care careers and education, primarily because there are physical skills that need to be learned in a classroom setting, as well as licensing rules in some states that affect what type of education is required.
With phlebotomy specifically, there's no way that a person could take all of their training online because in order to learn how to perform venipuncture and dermal puncture, a person needs to have some hands-on training.
Some states may not allow a person to take any online training, and there may be schools that also do not allow a person to take any amount of their phlebotomy training online.
In contrast, there may be some states and schools that may allow a person to take some of their training online (possibly the lecture portion of the class), but not the physical skills portion of the class. Again, as mentioned earlier, there's no way that a person can take all of their phlebotomy training online because they wouldn't be able to learn the necessary physical skills that are needed to practice phlebotomy.
This may be a disappointment to some people who may have believed that they could take all of their training online, but nevertheless, it's the truth. Think about it this way for a moment: would you want someone who had never set foot in a classroom poking you with a needle and attempting to draw blood from your veins? Of course you wouldn't, the idea of that sounds incredibly silly, but some people may still be surprised when they find out that it's not possible to take all of their training online.
Again, depending upon where a person lives and the school that they're attending, there may be different rules about online training, so it's wise to find out what the options are where you live and then choose a program that fits your needs accordingly.
