LEGO Superheroes - Why They Are So Popular

LEGO introduced its' new superheroes theme play sets in January of 2012.

Superhero LEGO's featured characters from the DC Universe, Marvel comics and several popular top grossing superhero films of recent years.

The LEGO DC Universe can be broken into two specific categories. There are play sets based on the DC comic's characters and storylines and there are play sets based on the DC film franchises such as the Dark Knight Rises and the forthcoming Man of Steel film. The LEGO Marvel Superheroes are based on the comics and films as well, but there are also play sets based on the Marvel comics related TV shows like X-men and Spiderman Ultimate.
LEGO has always been a popular toy for children of all ages. The interlocking plastic bricks can be assembled in many different ways to create buildings, vehicles and even functional robots.

The pieces can then be disassembled and put back together to complete countless other creations. The endless possibilities of a regular LEGO set was further improved with the introduction of theme LEGO sets to help players imagine their favourite characters complete famous vehicles and inventions surrounding their stories. LEGO has always been a frontrunner in geek culture as far as construction toys go.

This made the comic book and superhero world a logical choice for them.
There have been several imitations but no toy has ever achieved the level of pop culture and cult popularity expanding into their own feature magazine, cartoons television series' and even video games..

In the past, themed LEGO sets have been focused around characters, buildings and vehicles that appeared in a story, however, more recent sets have become much less generic.
Characters are now custom moulded and painted to give a much more distinct appearance allowing you to better tell who is who. For instance, previous LEGO Batman sets featured henchmen whose' torsos were interchangeable depending on who the villain was.
New play sets feature more unmistakable appearances and even include small details such as the Riddler's trademark bowler hat or the non-symmetrical head of the villain, Two-Face. While the LEGO DC Universe collection focuses on popular superheroes such as Green Lantern and Superman, The Dark Knight Film increased the popularity of the LEGO Batman.

It became so popular, in fact that it spawned a multi-platform LEGO Batman video game followed quickly by a sequel. Marvel comics then introduced their line of powerhouse superheros such as the LEGO Spiderman and LEGO Avengers. Both were extremely popular films enticing audiences to rekindle their love of these classic heroes as they were brought to new heights on the big screen. LEGO Superheros continue to be an extremely popular choice for toy collectors and children everywhere.
